[Solved] Invalid CD-Key ? ? ?

So I've tried joining a multitude of cracked servers only to have the game tell me that my "CD Key is not valid". Bloody great, I have no idea what the hell I'm supposed to do now.


My bad, the server I try joining is suckz.us which is running the 1.03 patch. This problem only came up when I was running the 1.03 patch, now an interesting thing I noted was how upon patching the game it changed the registry info from a standard CD Key to a very long alphanumaric string. I did not notice this until I actually tried joining a server and checked my cd key. I changed it back with no luck, I then tried many other keys but none of them worked. Now I'm totally stumped.

You might consider to really give us some information here.

What server IP's, what versions do they have etc.

Found these tips on my 'travels':

The CD-key is in fact encrypted now in the registry.

If you get the invalid cd key after patching try this.

start the patchinstaller.
after selecting language, press next, and leave it at that.
go into run menu in start menu, type %TEMP% click OK.
Window opens up, press F3 and do a search for BF2CDKeyCheck.exe and run the .exe
now close the patchinstaller and start the game.

Maybe you have to copy the bf2 patch files from the temp dir to the battlefield 2 folder not sure, I didn't try this myself.

OR

- go to your start menu, then to Run (or wherever it is. i use an alternate shell so i dunno...)

- type in the following: regedt32

- in the application that pops up, navigate to this location:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2\ergc

- once there, select the value that reads "<No Name> : REG_SZ : some stuff here" some stuff here is not literal.

- hit enter

- type in your CD-Key from the back of your manual. (edit: without the dashes)

- run that program "BF2CDKeyCheck.exe"

now watch the cd-key you just typed in change. that's what it does... just out of curiosity, did it change your cd-key to "x9392"?



Also make sure you disable your virus checker during patch installation.

I found out yesterday, that reinstalling the patch will help too.

It probably does the same thing though.

ye just tryed that it does change the first key to x93923..............etc
i guess its checking the key even before you patch so u can't use it even on cracked servers anymore!

It may be simply that the key authentication servers are down at the moment as happened when the game was first released and then again when the updates were released.

Edit #2: hmm, now it seems to have reset itself, but do i need to do this evertime i close BF2...cause is a hassle.

I tried all above methods, all failed though. When doing the registry change manually, then running the cdkeycheck exe, it does nothing to the registry, wether i have the edit box open or closed even.

Sorry! My bad, I did the reg fix wherest you start the updater, then run the cdkeycheck from the %temp% directory and then cancel the installer and it DID work!

after exiting the game, and starting again it still worked too  cheers!!

The method described above DOES work, however the encryption of the CD-key after patching to v1.03 is specific to the Windows User Account that was used to install the patch. If any other Windows user attempts to play the game on the same machine they are given a message saying the key is invalid.

If you find this is still not working you may also need to reinstall the game before applying the patch (although I have heard it still does not work for some people even after doing this). EA should be shot for these patches, hopefully they will release a hotfix for the 1.03 patch soon.

Very true, I recieved a new key last night, and I had to de-crypt and re-encrypt the key a few times for it to work...3rd times a charm I guess. I didn't have to do a full re-install or anything though.

hi iam janze1 useing the webside for a while now
keep the good work up      the reg patch did work for me only importing the txt files in ase sometimes got hangup or someting like that . , . .  can,t someone write a patch 2 use the fav in bf2 its self ?!?!?!?!?    i now use the connector 1.1  for ase,works fine but still have 2 close off bf2  2 chancge serv

Use battlefield2_code.exe to re-enter your CDKEY, this can be located in the support folder of where you installed battlefield 2 on your Hard-Drive.
After re-entering your CDKEY you must then reapply the latest patch in order for it to be encrypted into the registry.

i have done ur steps but still i cant BF2CDKeyCheck.exe file in the temp file any where i have got the 1.41 patch help plezzzzzzzzzzzz
