if you have the time, please have a go and tell keep up posted, as many people are getting this error.

Also, are you using an ATI card?

I had simular probs with the game freezed up, could not get into the game ETC....
then i downloaded the same crack that was on the dvd from www.gamecopyworld.com
and the game now works perfect Grin
(radeon 9800XT)
then also tried this on my sons comp and it also worked

Fix for th BF2 Graphic card problem :
The game now can be played on old gforce 4 and otherolder graphic cards :

1) download the Microsoft Framework, do a search on google (+download +microsoft framework)

2) download DXTweaker: http://mrbauer.net/files/dxtweaker.rar

3) Extract to a folder on desktop

4) Run DXTweaker, and goto "New" on the right

5) Point it to your root BF2 EXE (in your EA Sports\battlefield 2\ DIR)

6) Check the 2 boxes that contain 'SHADER' , one is FORCE PP SHADER OTHER IS PS SHADER or something of that sourt

7) Click Apply, and then click RUN on the top.

It will launch the game with no problems and you will be playing very smoothly!

I just wish EA and DICE would have included a simple pixel shader 1.2 include but w/e, this will be suffice for now.

I tried it only on geforce 4 so i guss it will work onto other graphic cards"

hope this helps someone

I got it working fine now, i just got the clone  dvd, does not drop me back to desktop, fine for me. It does freeze now and then on the server list but that must be a game problem, also i played about 25 mins on a punkbuster server, they only time i got the auth error was after thr map had finished, so must have just been my luck

They may need to bring a patch out or even you may just need to get 2gm ram like it recommends you

i have installed the latest nvidai driver that can with the game

this is the reloaded release btw, use the keygen from vitality

I think i figured it out, when I used the crack directory in the Reloaded release I only cut and pasted bf2.exe there is also a .dll file that you have to overwrite did you do that?

When i used to reloaded copy i put the core.dll and crack in the folder, it still crashed, i have been using the clone release for about 2 days now, fine, i get no crashes at all, game runs fine, i get on nearly all server and play for 1+ hour without any problems, i went on a EA offical server but there was no one on, i heard they log you down if you go on then anyway

1. Download the mini-image from the EPC FileCenter
2. Download & Instal deamon-tools
3. Download & Instal Anti-Blaxx from the EPC FileCenter
4. Unzip the mini-image
5. Open Anti-Blaxx

Set it like this

The Reloaded version is fine.. there is no problem with it.
We from DFF tested both versions, and they both crashed to desktop.
But.... we found the solution....

Check: http://www.dffclan.com for the solution and the manual how to fix it !

Ok but what if you're not using a prcoessor with HT? and still crash back to desktop? provided this person has a decent card as well.

im using the Clone-Ston3d Download, and i still get the same error, im running a fx 5800, everything is on low or off, i tried it on my dads x800 but still got the same problem, so i doubt it could be the video card. Help Please
I tried the anti blaxx solution too

just to let people know. i had the reloaded version, laptop with an 5700go. single player worked fine for me, but always got crash to desktop problems in multiplayer, didn't matter if it was punkbuster or not server. i tried everything and nothing worked, drivers, bios, voip, the lot.

came here, tried the fix by removing the patched exe and dll files, and reinstating the original files, and using anit-blaxx and the mini image file. works a treat, not crashes to desktop, multiplayer working fine. legit version is on the way though, as i'm happy now the game is stable on my system and want to play in more servers.

If still crashes, try using a tweaked video card driver.
Ex: In my case; since I'm using a radeon for my laptop, I need to use Radeon Omega Driver instead of my original mobility catalyst.

VERY IMPORTANT

Make sure u don't have any program (or drivers) forcing the default refresh rate of 800*600 to anything diferent from 60Hz!!!

BF2 will crash to desktop if it can't start with 800*600@60Hz

So if u have 800*600 forced to 75,85,100Hz IT WILL CRASH!!!

I used some stuff from the DFF website, and I can get to the "Join Game" button on singleplayer/lan multiplayer, but when i click on it the music repeats for a few seconds, then the game crashes.

Stuff used: Microsoft .Net Framework, DXTweaker...

It helped me get from a simple crash to desktop with no load, to the complete menu, just crashes when an actual map starts.

Any help? TI 4200 (Im upgrading but the DFF forums says it should work with proper tweaks.).

Thanks.

EDIT: After installing a shader fix "TatniumD3D" that was originally for the demo, i got the maps to start up, so now I can play BF2.
Bad news is The graphics are so low, there are so many weird glitches, and no textures, etc, its horrible. (so new video card soon, but this should do for now).

That mini-image is your best friend if you can start the game but it quits 5 mins into it.

But if your game freezes after the two logos and you have an ATI card, try changing your AGP from 8X to 4X. I have an ATI 9250 with latest Catalyst drivers and tried EVERYTHING and this seems to be the only solution for now. Also if your game chugs like a mother then set your dynamic lighting to either low or off.

I´ve got a ATI Radeon 9800pro with the same dekstop problem as soon as I start the game. I´ve tried the dxtweak, changing to 800x600, anti-blaxx and a lot of other stuff, but I have not tried changing drivers.
I´ve tried the latest (today) catalyst driver 5-10 and 5-9...

Have u ppl tried older ATI catalyst drivers to fix it?

A friend of mine is experiencing similar problems i guess with his laptop.  He told me the game starts but crashes to the desktop on launch - i told him that ment his video card could not handle it.  Does anyone know if a ATI Raedon Mobility 9600 128mb video card should be able to run BF2?  The part i dont get is the mobility, i dont know what makes that chip different than a standard video card in a desktop.

the cdkey is not in the registry, thats the reason for "back2desktop".
open up registry and go to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2\ergc

look if you can find the folger "ergc". if not, thats the reason for back2desktop.

if you wish to change the key (maybe pb banned) you can change it with the fff-ea103. download these files here

fff-ea103.exe -> generate -> change key. after that, you must start the file BF2CDKeyCheck.exe. if you want to know what BF2CDKeyCheck.exe does, u can watch the registry folder "ergc". the generator changes the key in the registry folder "ergc" (it looks like 0BFIGHING4FUN) and the BF2CDKeyCheck.exe adds a code in it. try watch the folder after fff-ea103.exe and after BF2CDKeyCheck.exe

thats all... you can play online now!

Ahh finnaly solved the problems with my bf2 game quiting. Seems like Anti-blaxx does the trick if you have problems when you join a server and when it finishes loading, it suddenly quits to the desktop with no error even coming up (stupid ea/dice could atleast have told us this in some cryptic form of error msg)  im using gamecopyworld.com`s BF2 DVD_MINI.MDF image for cracking.

And to dbldown768: Im playing this game on my laptop aswell it has a radeon 9600 mobile 128mb so your friend should be able to play it aswell. I would recommend using alternative omega drivers instead of original ati drivers. Gives better performance on my laptop atleast. Best regards

Here is all that I have done and it works perfectly for me.

1. Install BF2 via ISO mounted with Daemon Tools
2. Reboot
3. Install BF2SF Full via ISO mounted with Daemon Tools(this will also update to patch 1.22)
4. Mount No CD Mini image of BF2SF with Daemon Tools (No Cracked EXE needed)
5. Run 1.3 Patch
6. Reboot (just for good measure)
7. Play game.

Ok guys , I had that same problem , and this is how I fixed it.

Sometimes, it crashes to desktop when you click join server right|?

Did the same thing to me , usually when you first open the game.

download this [a href=\"http://rapidshare.de/files/14646943/familie.rar.html]Here[/url]

When your game crashes to desktop , open the fff-ea103.exe and generate a key , then click change key , youll notice it says the previous key is blank, even if you look in regedit, it will show a key.

So, click on change key, it will say change it from > to , click yes

Then run the BF2CDKeyCheck.exe to encrypt it, open your game back up, and play , ...

Every time it crashes to desktop , you have to do those steps, but it will work ...

I tried Anti-Blaxx , it didnt work, still crashed to desktop.

The steps I just showed you are the only solution I came up with.

Also I was using ver 1.3 , and the BF2 DVD_MINI.MDF with daemon.

Hope this helps you

Now people that are having success with that workaround, can refer the other people ( making 30 threads about the same thing, since they cant use the search button ) to a solution that works.

i sorted it out with ant-blacklisting programs
worked with anti-blaxx and a smaller one which i forgot
and  i tried few images some work some not

but whats wierd that the smae setup works once...twice... and then crashes back to desktop and then it can work again in the next attempt
and thats so anonying if counting all the time spent on
the stupid intro and increadbly slow load
and the sometimes-responsive-somtimes-not servers

(EA should be hanged)

Hey!
I have downloaded deomon-tools and Anti-Blaxx, and four different BF2-mini-images.
I run the game with Anti-Blaxx, and I have tried it with all the four different mini-images.
But still I have the desktop-problem, can't play more than 5 min in multiplayer.
Please help!
