Hey again, just a quick question, I noticed satannuts said to put "-nohltv" into the shortcut properties, what does this do? I looked up to see what the hltv was, but is there any real benefit of disabling it?

i need some help ive installed the non steam revemu the works but i cant get the server browser to work by installing revemu i already had a masterservers and steamclient.ori.dll but for some reason when adding the
"-serverbrowser" it doesnt show up?

Crap.

Cant get it to work anymore. Finally decided to update the game to 1014, now I cant get it to play. Every time I launch it, it tells me theres no Steam running. Heh, I'm lost. Using Skullptura's Rip.

And yes, I've followed the guide, Ive gotten this to work for 1011, 1012 and 1013, just cant seem to get 1014 to work.

If I revert back to 1013, still works. Help me out here, cant figure this out.



Bah, nevermind I think I figured it out.

The Cracked .exe in the Mediafire link is only 96kb? Maybe its broken. The Rapidshare one is 403kbs. Downloaded that one instead and I was able to fire the game up.

Aha, so I only need to install that full update, and that RevInstaller?
So all the other things can be deleted?

Any tips for playing as a monster? It's because in a game, my team were the survivors and the other team were the monsters. After 2 minutes our team were all dead. Incredible how fast they did it....

My game will not work, it crashes a couple of seconds after the first load screen appears. Here's a list of what I did exactly, I'd be grateful if someone could help find out what my problem is.

- I downloaded the PSY version, installed it to C:\Program Files\Left4Dead.
- I downloaded the 1014 update and installed it to C:\Program Files\Left4Dead.
- I downloaded the Rev Installed 9.79 and installed it to C:\Program Files\Left4Dead.
- I backed-up the original left4dead.exe (basically just copypasta'd it into a folder onto my desktop) and placed in the cracked left4dead.exe which I downloaded from the Rapidshare link.
- I made a shortcut on my desktop, and had this in the target field: "C:\Program Files\Left4Dead\left4dead.exe" -console -novid -nohltv -serverbrowser
- I tried to run it, it ran straight into the game. There was no option to "uncheck Steam Cloud". And it crashed.
- I ran the Steam Cloud registry fix included in the folder and tried running the game again, it crashed.
- I followed your Steam Cloud registry fix tutorial and tried again, it crashed.
- I tried editing rev.ini to change PlayerName, and it presents me with this error:

- After all that failed, I tried downloading Steam. I made an account on it, put Left4Dead.exe on the My Games list, and it still crashes.

I honestly don't know what I did wrong, I've gotten Skullptura's version to work perfectly fine (without online of course) but previously lost it while cleaning my folders. I read about the "Disable Visual Effects if you're using Vista", I am using Vista, and I set it to the very old Windows look (is that what you meant? if not then I honestly don't know how to disable these "visual effects", and Google gives me no advice either).

It's a little discouraging to sit around for 17 hours waiting for the download to finish, then another hour for the add-on stuff (the update, rev installer, etc.), and then another 2 hours of extracting it and installing it and then spending another 2 hours trying to decipher your instructions and struggling with it to watch it crash just seconds after I try to open it. I don't really care for playing online right now, I have the Xbox360 version, so if I wanted to play online I'd just play that one. All I honestly want to do it play around with vocalize commands, and see if custom maps will work (Night Terror specifically, that's about 80% why I downloaded this version).

If someone could help me with my problem I'd be grateful (wait, didn't I already say that?).

Checked it multiple times, the Read-only box is unchecked.

when you start the game for the very first time...  a window pops up aking if you'd like to save yer settings to the "steam cloud" if it never popped up for you, i wouldn't worry about it...  its not a good thing to have enabled...

Hi everyone, just discovered this great forum.

Can't find the solution for that one : I installed the Psy release, updated with full 1014 3august patch, installed Rev emu, launched game, tried to connect to a server and got the error "expecting 104, got 103", so I checked my "steam.inf" and it says PatchVersion=1.0.1.4.

Plus how can I get this 1013 error although i patched directly from 1011 to 1014...

The server you are trying to join is running 1013, you are running 1014 and hence cannot join.

Long story short try a different server (preferably one running the same version as your own).

This is (of course) covered in one of the first stickies in the L4D support forum.

cuz i only get about 5 servers from setti masterserver... with pings all 200+

And if i use qtracker I have to alt-tab out everytime, or when the server is full.

Is there way to just add that server list to favorite or something?

e-apply the full update v1014 aug 3 and the hotfix 6 again...

those files should be empty...
one of the updates [1013 maybe] zeroed out those files and the info is now included in just these files:
Left 4 Dead\left4dead\missions\airport.txt
Left 4 Dead\left4dead\missions\farm.txt
Left 4 Dead\left4dead\missions\hspital.txt
Left 4 Dead\left4dead\missions\smalltown.txt
Left 4 Dead\left4dead\missions\lighthouse.txt

so you may have missed an update...

also, for the favorites... use the newer rev-installer 9.80rc1 v3...  make sure to delete any older/outdated rev-emu files first outta yer root and bin folders...  ie. steam.dll, steamclient.dll... then apply the rev-emu...
mark masterserver.vdf in bin\config to read-only and change yer name in rev.ini... and yer good to go...

I just did all that again, Update 1004 hotfix and Emu... etc and still the error.

I Instal the game, follow the Guides, Update to 1014, Hotfix, and rev-emu.
Since the first time, that the Steam Cloud thing, never appear to me, I run the game with the Shortcut and the respective command file. And the game started. The only problem was the console with that errors, but I dont mind, I can play almost all servers with no problems( except the massive ping!! dam Ultimate7 or my ISP today.. 200~300?!?!wtf!!)

Not your fault. Many peeps have unbelievably bad pings on l4d. You'll have to play only on servers that are the closest to you.

You can both play on cracked servers together...
or you can make a cracked server to play on...
