First off, thank you for the guide on how to set up a cracked l4d server. The server runs fine, but once in a while it crashes and i get the "srcds.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close" error. Sometimes its after 20 minutes, sometimes after 1 hours, etc..., It usually doesn't stay online for more than 1.5 hours before it crashes.

Windows XP
AMD 4200+ X2
4gb RAM

I tried http://answers.yahoo...06222447AAHbGdQ to fix it, but it still gives me the error.

Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Hey guys. The server process is notoriously bad for stability, crashing 3-10 times a day for my servers. That's why I wrote the attached program, RestartL4D. It uses UDP to query the server, and when it stops getting a response, it assumes it's frozen and restarts the process. I had to do it this way because srcds.exe wouldn't crash, it'd just freeze. The longer you run the server, the more freezes and less crashes you'll have. It's just a hacked up little application, but if anyone wants additional features I could probably put them in for you.

Just about as often as nOlimit stated. I'm constantly restarting it, and sometimes I'll be too lazy and just leave it down for a few days...  v1.0.0.9 server was stable and ran for weeks without a problem...  perhaps its a bug in the rev-emu...  or with L4D itself...  doesn't matter... in a week or so we'll be faced with the update tsunami all over again!!

yh thought it was that too... went back to original maps and the same thing... I'm going to try it on linux...
that way I can see if the problem persists... plus I'll have working stats in Qtracker... yey!

OK. I'm presently running the server on a Vista x64 machine.  I'm using the latest rev-emu, and this is the error I receive: srcds.exe has stopped working Problem signature:   Problem Event Name: BEX   Application Name: srcds.exe   Application Version: 0.0.0.0   Application Timestamp: 492b6b78   Fault Module Name: steamclient.dll   Fault Module Version: 0.0.0.0   Fault Module Timestamp: 49ef09e3   Exception Offset: 0001a950   Exception Code: c0000417   Exception Data: 00000000   OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.256.1   Locale ID: 1033   Additional Information 1: 4902   Additional Information 2: f04af638dd1256d4d988bb9f085eaeff   Additional Information 3: d8de   Additional Information 4: 81e8a0ff9599ac6c5823c2d9289c725a Perhaps we should post our rev.ini files in hope that we can figure this out! [see attachment] edit: also, I have sourcemod 1.2.1-hg2660 and metamod 1.7.1 installed.  I've even gone as far as disabling most of the plug-ins... still the same thing...

I'm using no mods, i'll attach my rev.ini now and update the post with the error log once it crashes again. Running Windows XP Pro edit: here's the error signature AppName: srcds.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: steamclient.dll ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 0001a950 So it's obviously a problem with steamclient.dll, no idea what about it is wrong though.

Ok... this is definitely a problem that affects windows dedicated servers using the rev-emu to crack... Seems rev-emu may be the better choice for clients. With n0limit's cracked engine.dll and sv_lan set to 1, all crashes have stopped and the server is cracked! Seems n0limit's dll is the better choice for servers...
